Okara Lakes 10-Day Forecast Area Map
June 28th, 2009 - Very sad news. Yesterday, our oldest Okara Lakes resident and member, Dana West turned 99 years old. He was surrounded by children and grandchildren and by all accounts had a very fun filled afternoon participating in the festivities. Early this morning, he apparently suffered a fatal heart attack and died in his sleep. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
On a happier note:
Summer is here - and it's actually arriving at the Okara Lakes! We have had our fair share of rain, so if you haven't been up yet and have any kind of grass - be prepared to mow!
Temps have been rising and black flies are disappearing - finally. Deer flies are annoying and abundant in some areas. If you live near a Harbor Freight Store, go pick up a hand held battery operated bug zapper (if they're on sale they're only $2.99). They will make you stronger in the battle of the bugs.
Saturday, July 4th is the first Association meeting of the season. 10:30 on the beach - rain location will be at 234 Okara Road West. I will attempt to clean my garage in hopes that it will bring good weather. Please attend if possible. If you have an item for the agenda, please send it to me. I will send members a reminder e-mail.
The Historical Association is holding it's annual fund raising auction on Saturday, July 11th. It is a wonderful event and worthy cause. Speaking of which - if you find that you have items that you no longer have use for, consider donating them to the Auction. If you need help getting items to the Museum (across from the Post Office) please notify either John Munyan or Ed Girtler and they will make arrangements to help you out. No upholstered furniture will be accepted.
ACTIVITIES - check out the Historical Associations website www.webhistory.org and sign up for one of the great FREE tours that will be held this July.
