Courtesy Rules
Please abide by the simple rules and demonstrate your desire to be a good neighbor. If you rent or lend your property to others, please provide this information to them so they will be aware that there are some every day courtesies requested by the neighbors here at the Okara Lakes.
1. EMERGENCY NUMBERS
Fire Department 911
Police - 369-6515 (emergency only) 369-3157 (non-emergency number)
State Police 369-3322 or 357-3333
It is a good idea to have a written statement by the phone that would give specific directions to your residence. Refer to the one of the three entrances to the Okara Lakes. One is Okara Road East (Tekeni) 2nd is Onekio Road, 3rd is Okara Rd. West, across from White Water Challengers.
2. GARBAGE PICKUP
is early on Tuesday mornings. The town has requested that trash be put out no later than 7 a.m... Garbage and recyclables must be separated and put in clear plastic bags. (See recycling chart for specifics)
3. DOGS
Keep Dogs contained on your property and leashed when walking on the roads. There is a leash law in Old Forge and Thendara. No dogs in the water on the beach area. For sanitary reasons please keep dogs off the sand beach and on the grassy areas. Be responsible and pick up after your dog.
4. WATERCRAFT
No gasoline motors are allowed in either lake.
Lake Tekeni no motors permitted.
Lake Easka electric motors are permitted.
5. NOISE/SOUND
You may not be aware how sound travels over water. Noise is amplified from one side of a lake to the other. Have consideration for others and do not play loud music or have loud parties after 10 p.m. Be aware if you have a barking dog. If you are bothered by noise beyond 11p.m. you are encouraged to either speak to the offending neighbor or, because this would be considered a civil matter, to call the police. They can be reached at 369-3157 (non-emergency number)
6. ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
No washing of the body or hair with soap, shampoos and /or detergents in either of the Okara Lakes. Respect the wildlife in and around the Okara Lakes.
7. ROAD COURTESY
Most of the roads around the area are dirt and stone. Driving the posted speed of 25 MPH creates a large amount of dust during dry times in the summer. Keep in mind that many people walk on the roads. Neighbors whose house or camp is close to the road will have windows open during the warm months. There are children in the area.
